Basgiath War College is a military college in Navarre, consisting of 4 branches or quadrants. It’s described as looking very formidable, carved into the side of Basgiath Mountain. It is surrounded by stories-tall stone battlements, with defensive turrets at each of its corners. The road to Basgiath is lined with endless tombstones.
Students can choose to either become a scribe, healer, infantry or rider. Candidates for admission either volunteer, are sentences as punishment or are conscripted (most are conscripted). They must all pass the entrance exam consisting of a written and agility test. Every Navarrian officer must graduate from Basgiath in order to serve the kingdom. Students spend 3 years taking classes at Basgiath before they are sent out to defend Navarre from violent invasion attempts from the kingdom of Poromiel, among other threats.
One of the first rules at Basgiath War College is to never question a dragon. “They tend to cremate anyone they find rude” (Yarros 13).
Just like many schools in our universe, Basgiath has a bell system that is used to signal various events.
When a cadet is killed, parents have to option of retrieving their body and personal effects for burial or burning. They may also ask the school to bury them under a stone and burn the effects themselves.
In order to become a professor at Basgiath, one must have served 4 years with a combat wing.
