Dain is Violet’s close childhood friend. They both had parents in the military who were frequently stationed together. At the beginning of Fourth Wing, Violet is excited to be reunited with him since their friendship means so much to her. Dain was there for her when Mira left for the Riders Quadrant and again when Violet’s brother, Brennan, died. She misses the moments where their friendship might turn into something more. They are reunited in chapter 3 of Fourth Wing.
